How to be calm in front of a camera

In my work as a professional videographer I sometimes experience people being nervous and fearful before shooting a video. That is very understandable. It’s something that I also needed to step past when starting doing videos on our Social Media profiles: Instagram and LinkedIN. Working as a Social Worker, Psychotherapist and Mindfulness Facilitator back in Denmark has equipped me with great tools and skills to deal with this.

Here are a few tips to make you calm before a shoot:

✅ Accept and acknowledge what you are thinking and feeling. Don’t fight it. Give it space.
✅ Relax inside. Even though your body is saying something else, a deeper you inside can relax.
✅ Meditate and do mindfulness daily to help you build your inner quietude
✅ Imagine how you would feel AFTER the video shoot and bring that feeling into the present moment, like you already did the shoot. This will make your brain relax.
✅ Don’t take yourself serious! We all have anxiety and fear. But when we see this as just a human condition and programmed patterns, we tend to take ourselves less serious.
